Qualtrics Alternative

Brilliant Assessments as a Qualtrics Alternative

Finding the right platform for your assessment can be overwhelming. There are so many options out there, each with its own strengths and weaknesses. In this article, we look at the critical differences between Brilliant Assessments and Qualtrics.

Delivering Individual Assessments

The most critical distinguishing factor between Qualtrics and Brilliant Assessments is what they’re built for.

Brilliant Assessments is optimized for broad assessment use cases, including:

  • Skills assessments

  • Expert assessments

  • Professional development

  • Competency-based certifications

  • Industry programs and

  • Learning and development (L&D) programs

We also include individual assessments, 360s, cohort assessments, and partner portal experiences in every subscription at every level.

You can do a lot with Qualtrics, but wasn’t designed for individual feedback reports. While Qualtrics offers a wide range of capabilities, including engagement surveys and 360 assessment, these aren’t designed for individual feedback.

Reporting on Progress Over Time

In Brilliant Assessments, an iteration is when an assessment is conducted again to measure change or differences. Iterations are available across all assessment types and in every subscription, making it ideal for tracking progress over time.

In Qualtrics, this functionality is referred to as Pulse Surveys, typically used in employee experience Engagement Surveys to track ongoing changes in engagement or satisfaction. Pulse Surveys are also part of the survey subscription, not the 360 assessment.

Creating and Delivering Feedback

Qualtrics allows assessors to consume feedback in dashboard form, with data analyzed using their AI tools for quick insights. Feedback can also be compiled in a PDF report and automatically sent to a defined audience, including respondents. Setting up individual reports for large groups of respondents is manual, so this feature is more commonly used to update stakeholders rather than all respondents directly.

Feedback is the crown jewel of the Brilliant Assessments experience. Reports can be customized and delivered as a PDF, Word report, interactive results page, or all three. We also provide automated emails for personalized feedback to individuals, cohorts, partners, and assessors. While AI-based data interrogation isn’t currently available in Brilliant Assessments, this is an area of ongoing development.

How we Compare on Price

Qualtrics and Brilliant Assessments use a SaaS subscription model.

Qualtrics’ subscriptions are based on the type of assessment or survey. Pricing starts in the tens of thousands of dollars annually, typically requiring a multi-year commitment.

Brilliant Assessments offers all features across every subscription level, with pricing based on response count. We have a start-up offer available to companies with fewer than three employees, and annual subscriptions start at $1,990 for up to 600 responses per year, making it a more accessible option.

Support Offerings

Qualtrics is a large, global company. However, its size can make personalized support and customization less accessible. Qualtrics' more personalized support—such as dedicated account managers and customized platform assistance—is reserved for enterprise-level clients with premium subscriptions.

At Brilliant Assessments, we’re small but growing and can offer more personalized support. We also offer platform customization as a professional service alongside our subscriptions.

Brilliant Assessments' roadmap is very customer-driven, meaning new features are often introduced based on specific client needs. So, as a customer, you can really become part of our product (if you want to)!

When it comes to support, you can easily schedule 1:1 sessions with the customer success team to get hands-on assistance with building assessments, scoring, or navigating the platform. This level of high-touch support is ideal for users who need more guidance or want the platform to be adapted to their specific use.

Choosing the right platform for where you are in your assessment journey

Qualtrics provides a comprehensive library of resources, eBooks, and methodologies to help users stay updated on new and emerging trends in survey design and research methodologies. Most of these resources are available directly on the Qualtrics website, making it a great learning hub for those who are new to survey-building or want to explore different use cases. Additionally, Qualtrics offers a wide range of pre-built templates for common surveys, such as employee experience or customer satisfaction, which allow users to get started quickly with out-of-the-box solutions.

Brilliant Assessments is built for users who are experts in their field and need a highly flexible and adaptable platform. While some guides and methodologies are available, our platform is designed for users who already know how they want to structure their assessments. Brilliant Assessments allows users to fully customize every aspect of the process, from scoring to feedback.

Qualtrics is a good option for users new to survey or assessment design, offering structured templates and guidance right out of the box. However, for experienced users who want a high level of customization and flexibility, Brilliant Assessments allows you to design, brand, and tailor your assessments without the need for multiple subscriptions.

Where We’ve Landed

If you're focused on building a survey and want to prioritize how you aggregate the data as the assessor, Qualtrics is a comprehensive option. However, when it comes to flexible assessments complete with respondent feedback, Brilliant Assessments is the one to beat.
